Welcome to the space between his paws...
It's warm here. It's soft and furry. There's no pressure to perform, to measure up, to have it all together.
My name is Joy. I'm a ballet teacher and a writer. In the last couple of years I've put on two ballet performances, both based on Narnia books, written by my hero C. S. Lewis. I basically quit writing for two years to pull them off. This year I'm taking a step back and making sure I have time to write.
I'm a storyteller. That's my truest identity. Now you know. I tell stories through my ballets, my book (a fantasy novel - first of series of six), and with my life. As I recently heard someone describe it, they're all different sides of the same cube. I journal like I can't live without it. I start to breathe faster the longer I go without scribbling.
I love Narnia, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars. They tell the truth in a way we need to hear it. My room is practically wallpapered in photos of those movies; my family would nod in agreement with the word "wallpapered." My pictures are windows into other worlds.
I spend my time with my Bugs (my youngest siblings - I'm the oldest of 7), writing, teaching ballet, choreographing ballets, reading, and watching stars and sunsets.
This is my blog. I don't know how to blog yet, but I'll figure it out as I go. The important part is that I do blog. I'm scared to do it, scared to be open and thoughtful in public. I'm still kind of blanching that I'm writing this right now. But here I am, being obedient. Emerson said, "Always do what you are afraid to do." Here goes. ;)
