"Mentors have a way of seeing more of our faults than we would like. It's the only way we grow." - Padme Amidala, Attack of the Clones
I've been thinking about mentors lately. I've wanted a mentor forever, and last year life and God finally drove me to the point where the "the risk it took to remain tight in a bud became more painful than the risk it took to blossom" (Anaiis Nin). So I asked someone I admired, and she said yes.
Thank God. Mentors do have a way of seeing more of our faults, but having someone to point them out to us is the only way we grow. Living without those mentor figures is like trying to touch up your make-up without a mirror. Or trying to put it on at all. (I watched Kandee Johnson do it once and to hilarious results. (She's the funniest, happiest, most awesome make-up artist on youtube, btw!))
But in real life, the results of not having a mirror to look into are not pretty. Or funny.

"Don't keep licking your wounds.... Get to the point where people like to be around you." - Dr. James Dobson
I found that quote at least 4 years ago and it has challenged me like no other. My mentor helps me grow, and my fear kept me from seeking one out for years.
What keeps you from growing these days?
